🧭 Finding your way around

Everything on the site is one or two clicks from the header. Here is what lives where.

• Today ▾ — everything about today’s card: the Dashboard, AI Picks, Consensus (where two or more models agree), All Tips, Standouts, the Marks Board and Form Lines.
• Racecards, Edges, Smart Money, Results and My Stable sit on the bar in their own right — they are the pages most people open every day.
• Form & Stats ▾ — the reference records: Courses, Trainers, Jockeys, Track Bias and Big Races.
• Breeding ▾ — the Breeding Lab, Sires and Damsires.
• Tools ▾ — things you use alongside a card: My Bets, Value, Favourites Under Pressure and the Bet Calculator.
• More ▾ — the Performance record first, then reference and housekeeping: Guides, Methodology, Glossary, News, What’s New, this page, and About.

On a narrow window there is not room for all of it, so the header folds the reference menus away into More first — Breeding, then Form & Stats, then Tools — and keeps the racing pages on the bar. On a phone the ☰ button opens the lot as one list. Whatever the width, every page is still reachable and no address has changed.

The header answers where can I go, so it holds the menus, search, the theme button and your account — and nothing else. Controls that change how one page reads live on that page: the odds format (F/D) and the Table/Cards switch sit beside the date on Racecards, and the AI variant chip sits with the page’s own controls on Racecards, Today and AI Picks. All three remember your choice everywhere on the site, wherever you set it.

📧 The daily email

The day's AI-rated runners, in your inbox each morning before racing starts. Optional, free, and easy to stop.

• What arrives — the highest AI Scores on today's card, with race time and course, and a link straight to the full racecards. The same shortlist the site opens with. It is neutral analysis, not betting advice, and it is not a profit claim — our honest record shows the losing days too.
• Festival weeks — during a big multi-day meeting (the Ebor Festival at York, for example) the email adds one extra line: a link to that day's card as a PDF and to The Formula Paper, our free festival pack, hosted on the course's own page. It appears only while the meeting is on and disappears afterwards. Same rules as everything else here: the meeting profiled from historic results — neutral analysis, not betting advice.
• Turning it on — if you're signed in, a one-tap prompt appears once. You can also switch it on any time from your profile. If you'd rather not have an account, the signup box on the homepage takes just an email address and sends a confirmation link. The confirmation email names the page you signed up from; once you confirm, a welcome email tells you what arrives. If the confirmation gets buried, we send one reminder a day later — one, ever — and if you do nothing you're simply not subscribed. You can reply to any of our emails and a human reads it.
• On iPhone — iPhone Safari only allows web push once the site is added to your home screen, so the picks-alert card offers Telegram or the daily email instead. The email option works exactly like the signup box: address in, confirm from your inbox, done.
• Turning it off — the toggle in your profile, the unsubscribe link at the bottom of every email, or the one-tap unsubscribe your mail app shows next to the sender. Any one of them stops all of it. Only the profile toggle asks you to be signed in; the links in the email never do.
• One address, one subscription — if you signed up with the box on the site and later created an account with the same address, that is a single subscription, not two. Your profile takes over: the switch there shows the sign-up you already made, with the date you made it, and controls it from then on. You will never receive the email twice.
• How often — once a day, in the morning. Nothing else is sent to that address unless you switch it on, and it is never passed to anyone.
• The evening Stable digest — a separate, off-by-default email for signed-in users: how your starred horses, trainers, jockeys and sire lines got on today. Its switch sits beside the daily one in your profile, and its unsubscribe link stops the digest without touching the morning email.
• Not the same as Telegram — the Telegram alerts are a separate channel with its own settings, including near-the-off edge alerts. Turning one on or off does not affect the other.

🏇 Booked rides & runners today on the Trainers & Jockeys pages

The Trainers and Jockeys pages open with everyone who has declared runners or rides today, busiest first.

• What it shows — each name with a count of today's declared runners (trainers) or booked rides (jockeys), sorted so the biggest books come first. Tap a name for the full profile, where today's entries are listed race by race with course and time.
• Where the numbers come from — the day's declared cards, the same data behind the racecards. It refreshes when the day's cards are built, morning and evening.
• What it is not — a factual list of declarations, not a shortlist and not betting advice. A big book says a yard is busy, nothing more; non-runners after publication can make a count read high.
• Quiet days — if nothing is declared (or the day's cards aren't out yet), the board simply doesn't appear and the A–Z stands alone.
• Tomorrow's rides too — each trainer and jockey profile also lists tomorrow's booked rides and declared runners in their own section, from the moment tomorrow's cards are published. Late declarations (winter jumps declare the morning before racing) appear as the cards update, so "none declared for tomorrow yet" early in the day is normal. AI scores join a ride when its card becomes today's.
• Further ahead: Upcoming booked rides — the busiest jockeys' pages add an Upcoming booked rides section reaching up to about five days out, grouped by day. Bookings that far ahead can change as declarations are made, the list refreshes daily, and it only appears where we actually hold the bookings — no section means we don't know, not that the rider is free.

💷 My Bets — your staking journal

Keep a private record of the bets you place. It's your data — not betting advice, and never a claim about the site.

• Log a bet — on any racecard, tap 💷 on a runner. Choose Win, Place or Each-Way, your stake and odds (the morning price is prefilled). Or add one by hand on the My Bets page.
• It settles itself — once official results are in, each bet auto-settles to Won / Placed / Lost and your P&L updates. You can override any result by hand, or mark a bet Void.
• Your running record — profit/loss, ROI, strike rate, staked and returns across all your bets, filterable by result. Losing runs are shown honestly.
• Each-way & places — standard UK place terms by field size (e.g. places 1–3 at 1/5 in a 12-runner non-handicap) are applied automatically.
• Synced — sign in and your bets follow you across devices. 18+ · BeGambleAware.

🧮 Bet calculator

The bet calculator works out what a bet returns from the odds you type in. It is pure arithmetic — it holds no view on any horse, race or price, and it sends nothing anywhere.

• Bet types — single, double, treble and accumulator, plus the full-cover bets: Trixie (4 lines), Patent (7), Yankee (11), Lucky 15 (15) and Lucky 31 (31). A "line" is one bet inside a multiple, so a £1 Lucky 15 costs £15 — switch Stake is to Total outlay to work the other way round.
• Each-way — two equal stakes, one win and one place, so £5 each-way costs £10. Pick the place fraction for the race, and set a selection to Placed when it made the frame without winning.
• Rule 4 — enter the withdrawn horse’s price and the published deduction is applied to the winnings. It never touches your stake, and above 14/1 there is no deduction.
• Lucky bonuses — optional, off by default. Ticking it applies the usual terms (double the odds on a lone winner; 10% all-win on a Lucky 15, 20% on a Lucky 31). These vary between bookmakers, so check yours.
• Odds formats — 9/4, 3.25 and evens are all accepted, and prices are used exactly as typed rather than rounded to the nearest standard fraction. 18+ · BeGambleAware.

⚖️ Marks board

The Marks Board shows today’s handicap runners as numbers rather than chips — the counterpart to Standouts, which ranks horses by how many flags fire.

• OR — the official rating the horse runs off today. Last win is the mark it was rated when it last won.
• Lbs below — last winning mark minus today’s OR. Positive means it runs from a lower mark than the one it won off.
• Mark chg — the move since its last run. Green is an easement, red is a rise.
• Class — class move against the last run; a positive number is a drop in grade.
• Filters — below winning mark, career-low mark, mark eased, class drop, Pattern dropper, and course-and-distance winner. Defaults to handicaps, since that is where the mark sets the weight; toggle Handicaps only off to include every race type.
• Descriptive only — no strike rates or returns are attached to any row. An empty board is a normal result on a quiet day. 18+ · BeGambleAware.

🔗 Form lines

Form Lines finds the earlier races where two or more of today’s runners have already met, for every race on the UK and Irish card.

• Ordering — most-attended meeting first. A rematch involving a dozen of today’s field says more than a pair who met once.
• Each line — the course, date, distance, grade and field size of that earlier race, then every one of today’s runners who was in it, with finishing position. The winner is highlighted.
• Non-completions still count — a horse that pulled up or fell was in the race, so it appears. Only non-runners are excluded, since a withdrawn horse never met anybody.
• On the racecard — a race whose runners have met before carries a 🔗 N met before tag in its details row, where N is how many of today’s field were involved; the tooltip says across how many earlier races, and tapping it opens this page with that race in view. Opening a runner shows which of today’s rivals it has met, with the course, the date and how each of them finished.
• Nothing is scored — it is the intersection of form lines already on the racecard. Weights, ground and trip differ today, so a previous meeting is context for research, not a forecast. 18+ · BeGambleAware.

⏱️ How old a price is

Every surface that shows a market price also shows its age, in the same words: just now, 4m ago, 2h ago.

• It is the age of the data, not of the page — the label is worked out from the timestamp the odds feed itself wrote, so reloading the page does not make an old price look new.
• Amber means old — past about ten minutes for live exchange prices, the label stops being quiet and says the age plainly. Old prices are a reason for caution, not a fault: markets go quiet between races and overnight.
• Different data, different clocks — the Value board rebuilds on a slower cycle than the exchange, and Overnight Gambles is a snapshot taken while you were asleep, so each is judged against what is normal for it.
• No timestamp means unknown, not current — if a price arrives without one, you will see a dash rather than a time. We would rather tell you we cannot date it.

❓ Favourites under pressure

Favourites Under Pressure takes the shortest-priced horse in each race — the market favourite — and lists what is worth checking about it.

• What counts as a favourite — the shortest morning price in the race, and only out to 4.0. A race whose shortest price is longer than that has no favourite short enough to be worth the question.
• The questions — a long absence since its last run, a yard out of form over the last fourteen days, a step up in class, finishing out of the frame last time, ratings sliding over its last three runs, or too few runs to judge on.
• On the racecard — the favourite’s row carries a small ❓ N, where N is how many of those questions apply. Opening the runner lists them. Only the favourite ever carries it, so a race can never show more than one.
• What it is not — these are things to research before you form a view, not reasons to oppose a horse. A short price often reflects something real. Nothing here is a recommendation. 18+ · BeGambleAware.

🤝 Consensus — how much the models agree

Three AI models score every runner, each weighing the form differently. Consensus is simply the question of whether they agree with each other, and every card now leads with the answer in words before it shows you the numbers.

• Strong agreement — all three models put the horse in the top tier (a score of 65 or better).
• Majority agreement — two of the three do.
• Strong disagreement — the highest and lowest scores are at least 70 points apart. One model rates the horse highly and another does not, which is a different and often more interesting thing than all three being unsure.
• Split — no model has it in the top tier.

Underneath each verdict the card keeps the detail: how many models scored the horse in the top tier, the average score, and the individual score from each one. Agreement is not accuracy — three models reading the same form can be wrong together. It is a measure of how much of the evidence points the same way, and nothing here tells you what to back. 18+ · BeGambleAware.

🏆 Big races

Big Races is a searchable record of every pattern race run in Britain and Ireland this season — Group 1 to 3 on the Flat, Grade 1 to 3 over jumps, and Listed races below them.

• Each race — course, date, distance, going and field size, then the first three home with jockey and starting price.
• Filter and search — narrow by grade, or type a race, a course or a horse.
• The record starts October 2025. That is a data limit, not a choice: earlier results carry no race name or grade, so grouping renewals would mean guessing which race was which. It grows by a season each year.
• Updated nightly once the day’s results settle. Sponsor names appear as the feed recorded them that day. 18+ · BeGambleAware.

🔑 Account

What an account gives you

Starring horses, writing notes, logging bets and building edges keep what you build in the browser you are using. An account keeps it against your name instead, and unlocks the morning alerts: a push notification, a Telegram message or an email when something in your stable is declared. It also unlocks the racecard views and My Racecard. It is free. Neutral analysis, not betting advice.

📖 The words this site leans on

A handful of words do most of the work on this site, and each one used to mean slightly different things on different pages. These are the definitions everything else now follows. Where a word is used in a narrower sense somewhere, that is said here rather than left for you to work out.

Standout

A runner that ticks an unusually high number of form angles on today’s card — well handicapped, course-and-distance winner, class dropper, first-time headgear, a market steamer, and so on. Standouts ranks the whole card by that count. It is a count of angles, not a score, and not a selection.

Smart Money

Where money is arriving in the market. The Smart Money page lists every steamer and drifter on the card. The 💷 chip on a racecard is deliberately narrower: it fires only when the runner being backed is the shortest morning price in its race, has come in by at least 12%, and the feed’s own confidence in the move is 50 or better. Both are a record of where the money went — neither is a view on whether the money was right.

Value

One meaning: a bookmaker is offering a longer price than the exchange thinks fair, and the gap between the two is arithmetic — no model is involved. That is what the Value board shows. A horse the handicapper has treated kindly is a different idea with its own name, Well In. What value means, and why it is never a guarantee →

Edge

A rule you build yourself. Pick a field, a comparison and a number, and every runner that matches is flagged for you — see Edges. The built-in signals on a racecard are Edge chips: the same machinery, pre-built. Edge never means a price advantage, and it never means the models liking a horse. Those are Value and Consensus.

Alert

A message when something you asked to be told about actually happens. Two kinds, both tied to an edge you have armed: a morning alert once the day’s card is declared, and a near-the-off alert before each matching horse runs, capped at ten a day.

AI Pick, Top Picks and the Banker

Three different things, not three names for one. An AI Pick is the highest-scoring runner in a single race — there is one in every race on the card. Top Picks is those race winners ranked against each other across the whole day. The Banker of the Day is the single highest of those, and it is pinned once shown so it does not change under you as scores update through the morning. None of the three is a recommendation to bet.

Consensus

How much the AI models agree with each other about the same horse — not how confident any one of them is. Defined in full under Consensus — how much the models agree.

📊 Core ratings

AI Score (0–100)

Our 0–100 score for each runner, ranking the field within the race. By default it comes from our flagship model, which weighs ratings, recent form, class, course/distance/going records, draw, pace, trainer and jockey form and, on the flat, pedigree — never live price moves (how it is built). It is not a percentage chance. Labels: 75+ Elite, 60–74 Strong, 45–59 Average, below 45 Weak.

OR — Official Rating

The handicapper's numerical view of a horse's ability. Higher = better-rated. Used to set weights in handicaps.

RPR — Racing Post Rating

Racing Post's handicap figure. Independent of the official handicapper. RPR running above OR is a positive signal (horse running better than its mark).

TS — Topspeed

Racing Post's time-based numerical rating. How fast the horse ran (adjusted for going). Higher = faster.

HI-OR

Career-high OR — the highest official rating this horse has ever raced off.

💰 Market signals

🔥 Steamer

The horse's price is shortening — more money than expected coming in. The chip shows the % drop from the morning price. Often a "smart money" signal.

❄ Drifter

The horse's price is lengthening — the market is going off it. The chip shows the % drift. A negative signal, though sometimes the AI top pick still wins despite the drift.

🥇🔥 AI + Market agree

The AI top pick is also steaming. Strongest single-runner signal on the site — model and money both back it.

⚠️🥇 AI pick drifting

The AI top pick is drifting. Contrarian signal — we like it but the market doesn't. Worth a closer look at the runner card to decide.

Rank mismatch

Where the AI ranks a horse in the race vs where the morning market ranks it (“Mkt #6 · AI #1”). The 🎯 chip fires when the AI rates a horse 3+ places higher than the market. A factual rank comparison — not a probability or a value claim.

⭐ EW value

Each-way value signal — the horse's recent place rate exceeds the implied each-way odds (8 runners+ at 1/4 odds places). When you see ⭐, the place market is worth a look.

Well In / To Find

Comparison of current OR vs the OR when the horse last won. "Well In +5lbs" = today's mark is 5lbs lower than the winning mark (positive). "To Find 8lbs" = 8lbs above (needs improvement).

🏆 Edge chips

🏟️ Course Specialist

3 or more wins at today's track. Course form matters — some horses just love a specific layout.

🔥 Trainer Hotspot

The trainer is over 25% strike rate in the last 14 days. Yards run hot and cold; this badge says they're hot.

⬇️ Class Dropper

Horse running today at a lower class than its last outing. Often a positive — they're meeting weaker rivals.

🤝 T×J Hotspot

Both the trainer (14-day) and jockey (14-day) are running 20%+ strike. The combination has been hitting.

⚖️ Well Handicapped

RPR sits at least 15 lb above OR — the Racing Post rates the horse well above its official mark.

⏰ Fresh

30–90 days since last run. Not a layoff, just a sensible break — often a positive.

📈 Progressive

RPR rising over the last 3 starts, by ≥3 each step. Improving form is one of the strongest signals in racing.

🏆 C&D Winner

The horse has previously won at today's course AND today's distance. The exact combo, not just course or distance separately.

🌱 Emerging

A lightly-raced (≤3 runs), young (≤4yo) horse whose sire is a proven black-type producer — G1/G2/G3/Listed winners on its record. The classic unexposed-upside profile: not enough form to judge yet, but the pedigree says there could be more to come. An angle to research, not a tip.

🔁 Trip Back

Returning to a shorter trip after racing further for its last 3+ runs. A horse dropping back in distance has often been crying out for it — a classic punting angle.

🪜 Drops into 0-70

Dropping into a low handicap rating band (0-60 / 0-70) off a class drop. Stepping down into weaker company is one of the oldest value angles.

🏷️ Classified Racer

Running in a classified or lowest-grade race — class relief, meeting the weakest opposition available.

👓 1st-time headgear

Blinkers, visor, hood, eye-shield or tongue-tie applied for the first time. Can transform a horse — or do nothing. Unproven signal.

G1 / G2 / G3 / Listed

The race's pattern grade, shown in the race header. Group 1 is the top tier (the championship races), down through Group 2 and Group 3, with Listed just below — the best horses in training contest these. The vast majority of races carry no grade; when you see one of these badges, it's a higher-quality, higher-prize contest.

🎯 Below Winning Mark

Runs today off a lower official rating than the mark it carried when it last won. A factual handicap-mark comparison, not a prediction.

📏 Distance Winner

Has won over today's trip before (within a furlong). Proven at the distance, if not necessarily this exact course.

🏃 Race Fit

Ran within the last 14 days — match-fit and racing regularly, rather than returning from a break.

🌱 Lightly Raced

Four or fewer career starts — an unexposed horse that may still be ahead of the handicapper.

💧 Going Specialist

Has won on today's going, over at least five attempts on that ground. Handles the conditions.

🥇 Last-Time Winner

Won its most recent start. Confidence and form on its side, though the handicapper may have reacted.

🔋 Winner on a Break

Won last time out and has since been freshened with 30–90 days off — connections were happy to give it a break after a win.

💢 Beaten Favourite

Was sent off favourite last time but didn't win. The market fancied it recently; make of that what you will.

🏁 Front Runner

Habitually leads or presses the pace, based on its recent running style. Front-runners can be well suited when there's little other early pace.

⏳ Hold-Up

A patient hold-up performer that comes from off the pace. Often favoured when a race looks likely to be strongly run.

🐎 Top Yard, Sole Runner

The only runner in the race from an in-form yard (20%+ in the last 14 days). Sometimes a sign the stable has picked its spot.

🏇 In-Form Jockey

The jockey is winning 20%+ over the last 14 days (from at least 5 rides). Riders run hot and cold like yards do — and five rides is a small sample. Reading jockey form →

🥶 Cold Jockey

An amber caution: the jockey is without a win from 15+ rides in the last 14 days. Context, not a reason on its own to oppose: a jockey who wins 12% of the time goes 15 rides without a winner about one time in seven through luck alone. Reading jockey form →

⚠️ Unproven on Going

An amber caution: yet to win on today's going in four or more attempts. It may still handle it — just hasn't proven it yet.

⏬ Class Plunge

Drops two or more classes from its last run — a steep step down into much weaker company.

🎖️ Pattern Dropper

Ran in Group or Listed company last time and lines up in a handicap today — dropping out of black-type races into a rated contest.

📉 Mark Drops

Runs off an official rating at least 3lb lower than its last start — the handicapper has eased its mark.

↗️ Mark on the Up

The handicapper has raised its official rating by 3lb or more since its last run — a tougher assignment, shown for context.

🔀 Going Versatility

Has won on three or more different types of going — handles a range of ground.

🗓️ Seasonal Debut

Its first run of the season after a break carrying over from last year. Some yards need a run; others are ready fresh.

🤝 Jockey Reunited

Today's jockey has previously won on this horse — a proven partnership back together.

⚡ Edges — build your own

Edges let you build your own horse-finding rules — pick a field (class drop, trip back, well-handicapped, going, days since run…), an operator and a value, combine a few with AND/OR, name it and save. On the dedicated Edges page you tick your edges as chips and every matching horse appears, grouped by how many of your edges each one hits (all 3, 2 of 3…) with a 🔥 strength control to tighten to consensus. The same edges power a ⚡ Edges section on the Today page and a ⚡ Find bar + per-race Edges tab on the racecards. The Find bar also has one-tap quick filters — class drop, first-time headgear, won on going, ⚖️ well-in, 🏆 C&D winner, 🔥 market steamers and 🌱 emerging (unexposed horses by black-type sires) — plus max-odds and days-since-run dropdowns, so you can narrow the day without building anything. There are 40+ fields to build from, grouped as Ratings, Class, Trip, Going, Form, Headgear, Connections (trainer/jockey course records), Pedigree (sire win % on today's going & distance), Sectionals (speed/acceleration, where sectional data exists), Race (draw) and Market. Combine several with AND/OR to make an angle as broad or as sharp as you like. Every matching horse has a Why button that shows the actual numbers behind its match (e.g. "class C4→C5", "RPR 78 vs OR 70", "sire 19% on soft") plus its form.

📁 Saved sets. Keep named collections of edges ("Saturday handicaps", "AW sprints") and switch between them on the Edges page — each set remembers its own ticked edges and drives Today + the racecards. 🔗 Share. Hit Share on an edge to copy a link; whoever opens it can add your exact edge to their own list in one tap.

🔔 Morning alerts. Toggle Alert me each morning on any edge and we'll send a Telegram each morning listing the horses that edge has flagged on today's card — observational, not a betting recommendation. Needs your Telegram linked (the same link as the morning briefing). The 🔔 and the tick are separate things: the alert goes out on every edge with the bell on, whether or not that edge is ticked on the Edges page — and the page’s “today’s matches” list only shows the edges you have ticked. So an alert can name horses the page isn’t showing you. When that happens the Edges page now says so and offers to tick it for you.

📊 Track record. Each built-in template edge shows how it has actually done — its strike-rate and A/E over thousands of historical UK & IRE runs, settled at Starting Price and replayed with the exact logic the site uses today. A/E (Actual ÷ Expected) compares wins to what the market expected: 1.00 means the angle matched the market, below 1.00 means it came in under it. Being honest: most angles sit below 1.00 — they're research shortcuts for finding horses worth a closer look, not profit systems, and we show the real number either way. Custom or edited rules aren't backtested, so they carry no track record.

⏱️ Near-the-off alerts. Any edge can also be set to Alert me near the off — a separate Telegram before each matching horse runs, one message per race. You choose the lead time per edge — 2, 4, 10, 20 or 30 minutes — so a “get to a screen” edge and an “it’s off shortly” edge can live side by side. Use it for edges that depend on the market: a steamer or a price move means nothing at 9am but plenty just before the off. You can have either alert, both or neither on each edge — the 🔔 and ⏱️ buttons next to every edge in My Edges set them independently, and there's an Alert me on all ticked row to switch a whole set on in one go. A daily cap of 10 near-the-off alerts stops a loose rule flooding you (and means a very broad angle will go quiet after the tenth). Needs your Telegram linked.

📋 The 5-Step Qualifier. The 5-Step Analysis Guide shown on each racecard is a reading protocol: AI score, suitability (FS/DS/CS), pace, market move, and the 🎯 rank check. The 5-Step Qualifier starter template checks all five for you and can alert you near the off. The same applies to every built-in angle — Class Dropper, Well Handicapped, C&D Winner and the rest all sit in your edge list from day one, so “alert me when the angles fire” and “alert me when my own edges fire” are the same two buttons. It fires when a horse passes 4 of the 5, not all five — we replayed the composite across 73 days of real cards using the market as it actually stood four minutes before each off, and all five aligned exactly once. A rule that fires once a quarter isn't useful, so the bar is four. You can change it yourself two ways. The Steps of the 5-Step Guide passed (0–5) field lets you move the bar — 3 for more names, 5 to wait for the unicorn. Neither exists yet when the 09:35 morning list is built, so in that email a 5-Step edge tops out at 3 of 5 and a 4+ rule can never fire. Put any edge that uses them on the near-the-off alert rather than the morning one; the builder warns you if you set it the other way round. On the Edges page itself the live market is now loaded with the card, so all five steps count there once prices have formed — and before they have, the edge shows “–” rather than a misleading 0. Like every angle on this site it's a shortlisting shortcut, not a profit system.

The homepage and the morning Telegram briefing carry an automatic recap of how yesterday's AI top-rated picks did — wins, places, strike rate and the notional £10-level result, winners named. It's settled from official results and published unedited, losing days included; the full history lives on Performance, where every AI variant also drills down to a day-by-day cumulative curve and monthly table (tap 📈). The Telegram briefing also lists any of your Stable runners (horses, trainers, jockeys, sires and dams) declared today.

🧬 Pedigree

Bred for this / Suits / Neutral / Against

How a runner's sire has done at today's ground and trip, and how the sire×damsire cross has done — not a prediction about this horse. We divide the sire's strike rate at each condition by the population rate at the same condition, take the geometric mean of whichever measures we have, and band it: 1.30× or better is "Bred for this", 1.10× is "Suits", 0.77× or worse is "Against" (0.77 is 1÷1.30, so the two edges are the same distance apart). A single measure is a hint, not a verdict, so it cannot reach the strong labels on its own. Replaced the older ELITE / STRONG / AVERAGE / WEAK, which came from a model whose weights have not changed since February and which described the horse rather than the fit.

Sire IV

Sire Impact Value — how a sire's offspring perform at a specific condition (trip, going, course type) vs the racing average. Above 1.15 is strong, below 0.90 is weak.

"Not enough" / "no record"

A strike rate needs runs behind it before it means anything. Where a sire has fewer than 20 runs on today's ground or trip we show the rate and withhold the verdict, and the ground badge on the row doesn't appear at all. A sire with no runs at all on that ground says "no record" rather than reading as average — an unknown and a measured middle are different things.

Today’s pedigree angles

A board above the meetings on the Pedigree Lab’s day view: runners bred for the conditions, sires who are specialists on today’s ground, crosses outperforming the sire’s own record, trainer×sire combinations doing better than the sire overall, first-season sires, and runners the pedigree is against. Each row carries the figure that put it there and links to its race. Angles that find nobody on the day are not shown at all.

Pedigree drill-down

On the Pedigree Lab's Today tab, tapping a sire, dam or damsire opens their record inside the row — performance on today's ground and trip, the trainer's record with that sire, and their record at the course — without losing your place. The Tomorrow switch shows the next day's card as soon as it is declared, which is usually around 05:30; the pedigree scores for it publish at about 08:15 on the day.

Why definitions matter: the site surfaces a lot of signals at once. Knowing which to weight heavily (AI Score, ⭐ EW, 🥇🔥 agreement, Class Dropper) vs which are tie-breakers (PS, T A/E) is the difference between drowning in chips and reading a card fluently.

1. The race card at a glance

Every UK & Irish race today is rendered as a self-contained card. Top to bottom you'll see (new to racecards? Start with how to read a horse racing racecard):

• Race header — time, course, race name, condition chips (distance · turf/AW · going · class · age band).
• AI Verdict — a one-line summary of why our top pick stands out, generated from the edge chips and form.
• Top 3 Picks strip — gold/silver/bronze callout with the three highest-scoring horses, their odds, and a one-line reason. Click any name to jump to that horse in the table.
• Tactical Pace Map — the field laid out in run-style lanes, Leaders → Prominent → Midfield → Closers, each horse a token showing its stall number and colour-coded by running style (read from its recent running lines). A header calls the likely race shape (strong/moderate/slow pace) and counts the confirmed front-runners. A ⚡ marks the field's strongest finishing kicks (from our sectional data) — who quickens best late. A race-shape guide, not a tip.
• Track Bias — historical draw and going stats for the course.
• Smart Filters — collapsible panel to narrow the field by going/distance/class/lookback.
• Perspective tab strip — the heart of the page (see section 3).
• Field table — every horse, sortable, expandable.

2. Reading a horse row

Each row in the field table is one runner. Left-to-right:

• ▶ — click to expand the rich detail drawer (breeding, runner commentary, key stats, recent form).
• No — racecard number. A coloured dot shows draw bias (green = favoured draw, red = unfavoured).
• Horse — name + coloured form dots (last six runs: 1 wins, 3 places) + a tiny OR trend sparkline showing the last 5 official ratings. Below the dots: age, sex, headgear, jockey, trainer, and a row of signal chips (see section 3).
• Odds — current Betfair Exchange best back, with 🔥 -22% chip if it's a steamer or ❄ +18% if it's drifted, plus a price movement sparkline.
• AI — our composite confidence score (0–100), shown as a mini bar + number, with a 🎯 rank-mismatch chip when the AI ranks the horse well above its market position.
• Then the right-hand columns swap based on the active perspective tab (Summary by default).

The top 3 horses by AI score get a left-edge gold/silver/bronze stripe and a circular medal badge so they're always easy to find.

3. Horse-row signal chips explained

Below each horse's form dots you'll see a row of small coloured chips. Each one is a specific signal computed from the horse's data. Chips only appear when the relevant threshold is met — a clean row means no signals fired.

• Headgear B V P etc. — the horse's headgear code. If the horse is wearing it for the first time, a gold ^1st badge appears and the chip is highlighted. First-time headgear is a trainer-intention signal.
• RP form codes BF CD C D — beaten favourite last time, course & distance winner, course winner, distance winner. Tooltip-explained on hover. See glossary for thresholds. Solid track-form proxy that pre-dates any of our edge chips.
• Country flag 🇮🇪 / 🇫🇷 / 🇺🇸 / 🇩🇪 etc. — only shown when the horse was NOT bred in GB. Useful for spotting Irish/French/US-bred runners at a glance.
• Wind op (amber) — wind surgery noted by the trainer. First run after a wind procedure often produces sharp improvement; one of the cleanest "intention" angles.
• 1st w/ J (purple) — first time this jockey has ridden this horse. New booking can mean tactical reset or a yard switching to a hotter pilot.
• 1st gelded (blue) — first run since being gelded. Frequently transformative for previously hot-headed colts.
• Weight cell ±lb 10-7 −3 / 11-2 +5 — the suffix shows apprentice claim (−Nlb, green) or recent-win penalty (+Nlb, red). Already factored into the listed weight; surfaced so you can compare two horses with the same listed weight but different actual ability marks.
• #4 draw chip (flat races only) — the horse's stall number. Only shown for flat races where draw can matter.
• Going record 🌧️ 2/5 / ☀️ 1/4 — wins/runs on today's going type. Green if win rate ≥30%, amber if ≥15%.
• Last run 14d · 2 — days since last run and finishing position. Green if they won last time, amber if they placed.
• New J (amber) — jockey has changed from the horse's last run. A switch often signals stable intent.
• ↓ C4→5 (green) / ↑ C5→4 (amber) — class change from last run. A drop in class (higher number) is generally a positive signal; a rise means facing tougher company.
• ↗ (green) — form trajectory improving: most recent finish is better than two runs ago.
• ↘ (amber) — form trajectory declining: most recent finish is worse than two runs ago.
• RPR+N (green) — RPR (Racing Post Rating) is N points above the horse's official OR. When RPR significantly exceeds OR, the horse may be running off a lenient handicap mark.
• Jockey 14d pill 6/22 27% — jockey's wins/rides and win rate in the last 14 days. Green if ≥25%, amber if ≥20%.
• Trainer 14d pill — same for the trainer.
• Pace style LED / PROM / HELD — the horse's typical running position derived from historical form.

A horse with New J + ↓ Class + ↗ + RPR+8 is sending four aligned signals at once. That kind of convergence is worth noting.

4. Perspective tabs — the killer feature

Click any tab to swap the right-hand columns and see every horse compared on that condition. The horse list stays put — only the data changes.

5. Sectionals — what every column means

Sectionals is per-run timing and stride data for UK & Irish races. Each number you see is either the 3-run average (recent form) or, in the expand drawer's career profile, the career best. Field-rank badges (1/12, 2/12…) show where the horse sits in today's field for that metric.

⚡ Speed & shape

• Top Spd — peak speed reached during the race (mph). Raw "what gear has this horse got" figure. Flat only.
• FSP — Finishing Speed %. How well the horse's speed held through the final furlongs. Higher = stronger finisher. Flat only.
• Entry Speed — speed (mph) entering the last fence / flight. Jumps only.
• Exit Speed — speed (mph) leaving the last fence / flight. Jumps only.
• Recovery — seconds to recover race speed after a jump. Lower = better. Jumps only.
• Lost — speed lost per jump (mph). Lower = better (indicates clean, efficient jumping). Jumps only.

🦵 Stride shape

• Stride — average stride length in metres. Long stride usually = galloping action, short stride = turnover-based runner.
• SFreq (Stride Frequency) — strides per second. Pairs with stride length: a 6.5m / 2.1 s/s horse is a lazy galloper; 5.8m / 2.4 s/s is a tempo-based sprinter.

⏱️ Sectionals

• Sect Idx (Sectional Time Index) — 0 to 10 score benchmarking each sectional split vs course par. Higher = better. Flat only.
• vs Par — seconds the horse's sectional time beat (or lost to) course par. Negative is good — it means faster than par. Flat only.
• Sect FSP — Finishing Speed % derived from the sectional splits. Same idea as FSP but computed from mid-to-late-race sectionals only.
• Accel — seconds to reach 20 mph from the gate. Lower = quicker away. Flat only — the gate-break metric doesn't apply to hurdles / chases.

Why some cells are em-dashes: not every race has sectional coverage, and only certain metrics are captured on certain race types. Sectional Index / vs-Par / Accel are flat-only. Jump metrics only populate for hurdle and chase races. Bumpers (NH Flat) get stride shape only. When a metric isn't available for a horse, the cell shows "—" rather than faking a number.

6. The expand drawer

Click ▶ next to any horse to open the full detail drawer. You'll see:

• 🧬 Breeding — sire, dam, damsire, breeder, plus sire-level win rate and preferred going.
• 🤖 AI Spotlight — our narrative on the horse's chance, plus connections quotes when available.
• 📊 Key Stats — course/distance/going record, trainer 14-day form, jockey 14-day form.
• 📡 Sectional Career Profile — side-by-side recent vs career-best bars for Top Speed, Exit Speed, Entry Speed, FSP, Sect FSP, Sectional Index, vs-Par, Stride, Stride Frequency, Acceleration, Recovery, and Jump Index. A progress bar next to each metric shows how close the last-3-run average sits to the horse's lifetime peak. Hidden if we have fewer than 3 Sectionals runs on file.
• 📈 Recent Form — last 5 runs with date, course, going, distance, class, position (1st 🥇, 2nd/12 etc.), beaten distance, SP and jockey.

Pos column is colour-coded: green for wins, gold for places, grey for unplaced, red for non-finishers (PU, F, BD, U). The number after the slash (e.g. 2nd/12) is the field size of that race.

7. Edge chips — what each chip means

Edge chips appear on each horse row (and in the card view) whenever the data meets a threshold that's historically been significant. They're signals, not certainties.

• 🏟️ Course Specialist — has won at this course 3+ times.
• 🔥 Trainer Hotspot — trainer is firing at >25% win rate in the last 14 days.
• 🤝 T×J Hotspot — both trainer AND jockey have a ≥20% strike rate in the last 14 days (with 3+ rides each). The combination is hot.
• ⬇️ Class Dropper — dropping in class vs the horse's most recent run. Horses stepping down often regain confidence.
• ⚖️ Well Handicapped — current RPR is 10+ points above official rating. The horse is running off a mark the handicapper hasn't yet caught up with.
• ⏰ Fresh — 30–90 days since last run. Not stale, not rushed — the sweet spot for many trainers.
• 📈 Progressive — RPR has improved in each of the last 3 runs. A horse on the up.
• 🕶️ 1st Time Headgear — wearing blinkers, visor, hood, cheekpieces, tongue tie or eye shield for the first time. Trainers fit new gear when they expect improvement.
• 🏆 C&D Winner — has won at this course over a similar trip before. The most powerful angle in jump racing.
• EW★ EW Value — historical place rate exceeds the implied place probability at the current odds by 25%+, in fields of 5+. Points to each-way value beyond win markets.

Badges are non-exclusive — a horse can carry several at once. The more chips, the more angles are aligned.

8. F / D — fractional or decimal odds

Top right of the header, the F / D toggle flips every odds value on the page between fractional (5/2) and decimal (3.50). Choice persists across pages and reloads.

Behind the scenes, fractional odds are mapped to a 75-entry table of standard betting fractions, so you'll never see odd rounding like "3/1" when you should see "5/2".

9. Cards vs Table view

Next to F/D, the ⊞ Table / ▤ Cards toggle swaps the layout for the entire racecards page.

• Table (default) — dense, scannable, perspective tabs, sortable. Best on desktop.
• Cards — each horse is a self-contained card with the same expand drawer. Best on mobile or for casual browsing.

Both views share the same data, top-3 highlights, F/D odds, and Smart Filters.

🗂️ Racecard views & My Racecard

Above the race cards, the VIEW row changes what each race shows first. Default is the racecard exactly as it has always been, and it is what racecards open in unless you choose otherwise. On a phone the row is a single View: Default ▾ button.

• Quick — runners and headline ratings: the race shape line, the top three and a compact runner table.
• Form — records on this going, course, distance and class: races open on the Suitability tab, with head-to-head and the field comparison.
• Market — how prices have moved since the morning: races open on the Steamer tab.
• Pace & Draw — likely early pace, run styles and stall statistics: the draw bias banner, the pace verdict, the tactical pace map (open) and track bias.
• My Racecard ⚙ — your own layout. Choose ⚙ Customise to show or hide each section, move sections up or down, pick which ones start open, switch runner-row details on or off, choose Compact or Comfortable spacing and the tab races open on. You can also highlight the horses you have starred or are watching.

Every view reads the same runners, prices and ratings as Default — a view changes what is shown and in what order, never the data. A tab you pick on a race always wins over the view's starting tab.

The views other than Default need you to be signed in (what an account gives you), and your choices are saved to your account. The My Racecard guide has layouts worth trying.

Nothing is remembered unless you ask. After switching view you can choose Open racecards in Form next time, and Always open in Default puts it back. Inside Customise, Reset My Racecard returns your own layout to the recommended one, and Switch to Default takes you to the normal racecard. Neither ever changes the Default racecard itself.

10. Smart Filters

Click 🔍 Smart Filters on any race card to expand the filter panel. You can narrow the field by:

• Lookback — only count form from the last N months
• Going — only horses with form on heavy / soft / good / firm / standard
• Distance — ±1f, ±2f, or exact match
• Class — same / lower / higher than today's class

Or use a preset:

• 🏆 C&D Winners — horses with course & distance form
• 📈 In-Form — last 6 months only
• 🌧️ Going Specialists — only horses with form on today's going
• ⬇️ Class Droppers — running below their highest class
• 🏃 Speed Demons — top Sectionals speed-vs-standard runners

Filtered races show a yellow badge in the header: "🔍 5 of 12 shown · clear filters".

11. 🔥 Steamer & ❄ Drift chips

Live exchange odds come from our Steamer Sniper service, which streams Betfair Exchange tick-by-tick and refreshes every 30 seconds.

• 🔥 -22% — flagged as a steamer by our market feed: the price has shortened from its morning level. A record of what the market did, not a view on whether the money was right.
• ❄ +18% — the price has drifted 10% or more from its morning level. What market moves can and cannot tell you →

The Steamer perspective tab shows the morning price, current price, drop %, velocity label and confidence score for every flagged runner. The Bookies tab shows the best traditional bookmaker price (Bet365, Paddy Power, William Hill, Sky) for the same horses.

Bookie odds are only available from ~2 minutes pre-off, when our scraper hits Oddschecker for the steamer-flagged horses. Earlier in the day the Bookies tab will be mostly empty — that's expected.

12. The 3 AI Models

We score every runner in every race with three models, each with a different approach. Switch between them with the 🧠 AI chip in the header:

• The Racing Formula (default) — our flagship machine-learning model. A gradient-boosted model trained on years of results weighs ratings, recent form, pace, jockey/trainer and pedigree together to rate every horse, and that rating becomes the 0–100 AI Score on the card — a ranking of the runners in the race, not a published win probability. It's the same engine behind our daily NAP & Next Best.
• Field Edge — scores each horse on six field-relative edges: rating z-score vs the rest of the field, day-level class strength, trainer hotspot, sire suitability on today's going & distance, and course draw bias.
• Sectionals — a sectional composite ranking horses on top speed, finishing-sectional and acceleration. Only scores when 2+ runners in a race have sectional data.

The Performance page breaks out the daily P&L for each model so you can see how they're doing — published unedited. (Several older experimental variants still run quietly in the background as controls.)

13. Today page

The 📊 Today page is your race-day dashboard — all picks, movers and stable alerts in one place.

• ⭐ Stable alert banner — if any horses in your My Stable are running today, a compact banner appears at the top with their names and race times. Click any horse chip to go straight to their profile.
• 🤖 Live P&L banner — shows today's W/L record and running P&L in real time as results come in. If the AI is on a consecutive winning or losing run, a streak indicator appears: 🔥 3 straight or ❄️ 2 straight.
• Banker of the Day — the single highest-AI-scoring horse across all meetings, with angles, form and pace style shown.

14. Results, All Tips & Performance pages

Beyond the racecards, three pages give you a full picture of what the AI is doing — past, present and live.

• 🏁 Racing Results — today's UK & IRE race results as they come in, auto-refreshing every 60 seconds. Each result card shows the winner's SP, the top 3 finishers, the beaten favourite, and a 🤖 badge on any race where the AI made a pick today. If the AI's pick won, the row turns green. If it placed, it's amber. Results are sorted newest first — the most recent race is always at the top.
• All Tips — Recent Results tab — switch from "Today" to "Recent Results" to see the last 7 days of AI picks with their outcomes, P&L, and position. Good for checking if a run of form is real or a blip.
• Performance — how we test in the open — the four rules we hold ourselves to (locked before the off, settled publicly, losers stay visible, no edits after), an honest note that the AI tracks the market rather than beats it, an AI-Score reliability curve showing how the win rate climbs band by band, the variant test bench (win rate, P&L and ROI for every model, losses shown in red), and a tamper-evident pick chain you can re-verify in your own browser.

• 🗂️ Racecard views & My Racecard — A VIEW row above the race cards: Default (unchanged), Quick, Form, Market, Pace & Draw, and a My Racecard you arrange yourself. How the views work.
• 📧 Daily picks by email — Add your email on the homepage to get the day's top AI picks each morning. Free, one tap to confirm, unsubscribe any time. Signed in? You can also turn it on in your Profile.
• ⭐ Stable runner alerts — Follow a horse, trainer, jockey or sire in My Stable and you'll get a notification each morning when one of them is declared in today's card. Two ways in: signed in, enable browser push in your Profile; or — without an account — star something and turn the alert on right from the prompt that appears. The no-account alert is per-device and per-browser, so it doesn't follow you across devices the way the account path does.
• 🔝 Top-AI push alerts — Opt in (Profile → browser push) for a daily push of the day's strongest picks by name, ranked by the flagship The Racing Formula model.
• 🔥 Daily check-in streak — The homepage tracks how many days in a row you've checked in — a nudge to keep on top of the cards.
• 🗺️ Race-Shape read — Expand a race and the 🤖 AI preview adds a SHAPE line: how the race should be run (projected pace) and which draw is favoured at that course & distance.
• 🧬 Pedigree Fit — Each runner's expanded detail carries a breeding angle — whether the sire's progeny do well at today's trip and ground — with the label, what it was measured from, what could not be measured, and any red flags. Display-only context, not an edge claim.
• 🗞️ AI Verdict archive — Every race's AI preview is kept permanently and paired with the settled result. Browse them on the new Verdicts hub.
• 📈 "Are the prices honest?" chart — The Performance page shows a calibration curve: when a runner's morning price implies an X% chance, it wins about X% of the time.
• 🎉 Share your winning days — On a winning day the homepage recap shows a one-tap "Share the win" card.
• ⚡ Value Board — The homepage shows the day's edges at a glance (well-in, C&D winners, class droppers, steamers, first-time headgear), each a one-tap filter into the cards.
• 💷 Smart Money chips — On the racecards, a chip flags where the market is confidently piling into the favourite.
• SP Result Badges — After a race settles, Today picks show WON / 2nd / 3rd / LOST badges automatically.
• AI Confidence Filter — Above the Today picks, use All / 70+ / 80+ to filter to only high-confidence selections.
• Morning Price Movement — Today picks show a ↘/↗ chip comparing the morning price to current price.
• Results Live Badge — The Results page shows a green pulse dot and auto-refreshes every 60 seconds, pausing when the tab is in the background.
• Horse Page Track Bias — On any horse profile, courses where the horse has run 2+ times show a Track Bias widget.

16. Tips & shortcuts

• 🥇🥈🥉 Top 3 picks are highlighted with a coloured left border. Click a name in the Top 3 strip to jump to and expand that horse's row.
• Hover any stat column header on the race table for a one-line definition — works across every perspective tab.
• The race countdown timer on each card now shows the full time until off — e.g. 2h 15m — not just the last 10 minutes.
• Click 📊 Yesterday's Results on the racecards page to see how yesterday's picks settled.
• Star any horse on the racecard (⭐) to add it to My Stable — it'll appear in the Today page alert banner next time it runs.
• The F/D and view toggles persist via localStorage — set them once and they stick.
• All odds, P&L, win rates, speed figures and breeding stats are free. We don't paywall anything.
